I explain why our natural way of thinking tends to make delivering projects more difficult than it needs to be. I used to lie to my colleagues and clients at work, it was a regular thing. But, it created all sorts of problems. I justified my behaviour to myself by saying - I was just stretching the truth, holding things back or putting a positive spin on things. But I was lying.

My lie: “really well thanks I’ll share it shortly”
The truth - I hadn't started it.

In this talk I’ll share the reasons why I lied as a way to bring to life why we see challenging behaviour at work. 
Once we understand what’s really driving the behaviour we see in ourselves and others, we can then use this to build different coping strategies. I’ll share the psychological needs that create challenging behaviours and together we’ll design workplace strategies to meet those needs.

Impostor syndrome is a well-known but often misunderstood topic. One look at LinkedIn, Facebook or Instagram highlights how prevalent the term is and the huge range of conflicting views and opinions. As both someone who manages their own feelings of impostor syndrome, and as an impostor syndrome coach, through this talk Clem aims to demystify the subject, looking at what it is and isn’t, who it affects, and the different ways it can show up. He shares his own personal experience with the phenomenon and provides tips on how to settle your own impostor feelings – because yes, it’s likely everyone will feel like an impostor at times. And while impostor syndrome isn’t constrained to one particular industry, group or profession, the tech industry does seem to be affected more than most. The talk will look at examples relevant to tech and explore strategies to prevent it from becoming overwhelming, debilitating and holding you back in your career.
